DiClad 527 is a woven-glass PTFE laminate offered over a dielectric-constant range. It occupies a higher-Dk region than DiClad 870 and 880, with corresponding differences in reinforcement and RF properties. Its selectable grades require the desired dielectric construction to remain visible in the procurement specification.

DiClad 527 — reported properties and conditions
PropertyReported valueConditions / source
Dissipation factor0.0017Typical, 10 GHz, 23°C; IPC-TM-650 2.5.5.5; direction is not separately recorded here. Source
Thermal conductivity0.26 W/(m·K)Typical; ASTM E1461, through-thickness direction; test temperature not specified in the product table. Source
Process dielectric constant2.40–2.60Typical; 10 GHz, 23°C/50% RH, IPC-TM-650 2.5.5.5; multiple selectable Dk grades. Source

Typical reported values are not a purchase specification. Process Dk, design Dk and values measured at different frequencies are not interchangeable.

Selection and design notes

  • Consider it when a printed antenna or RF network benefits from a chosen Dk between the lower PTFE values and materials near three. Compare a specific ordered grade with alternatives rather than assigning the entire range one electrical identity.
  • For a replacement study, reproduce the target impedance and phase using the selected thickness and copper. Matching only the product family can leave a meaningful dielectric difference unresolved.

Thickness and copper options

Use the current DiClad 527 offering table and ordered dielectric variant; core thickness is not an independent substitution.

ED copper is listed; confirm treatment and weight for the selected thickness.

Fabrication considerations

  • Have the fabricator confirm PTFE drilling, surface activation and laminate orientation for the intended panel. Woven reinforcement supports handling but can still interact with narrow traces and local field distribution.

Application fit

  • Printed antennas
  • Microwave feeds
  • Specified-Dk PTFE boards

Limits and substitution checks

  • A generic DiClad 527 preset would conceal the published 2.40–2.60 range, so automatic entry is disabled. Thermal observations also differ in method from some selector values. Use the grade-specific material and complete stackup to evaluate RF performance, dimensional behavior and temperature exposure.
