XtremeSpeed RO1200 includes laminates and bondplys intended for high-speed designs. The family-level decision is whether its complete multilayer construction supports the channel loss, timing and fabrication requirements of the system.
Describe a channel, not only a bit rate
List the route length, transition count, signaling method, rise time and receiver budget. A nominal data rate does not uniquely define a board’s usable frequency content or margin. Use RO1200 laminate data in a channel model with the intended copper and finished geometry, then compare it with a baseline construction.
Core and bondply play different roles
The RO1200 bondply belongs in the stack model as its own dielectric layer. For stripline, fields can occupy both core and bonding regions; copying the core’s Dk and Df into every layer can misrepresent the channel. Confirm cured spacing, resin distribution and the manufacturing sequence with the fabricator.
Focus validation on repeatability
Include transmission lines with representative transitions and differential geometry. Check insertion loss, return loss, delay balance and crosstalk across the required band. Connect the result to the actual receiver or system acceptance method. The high-speed digital guide explains how material investigation fits with via, connector and reference-plane decisions.
